ONDE at the boathouse in Leoni on Lake Starnberg
Water, wood, and the quiet atmosphere of a special place: for the photoshoot of our new sideboard ONDE, we found ourselves at the boathouse in Leoni on Lake Starnberg.
ONDE takes its name from the Italian word onda – wave. This motif runs throughout the design of the sideboard. The vertical wood grain appears to gently flow around its defining details, while subtle recesses inspired by the shape of a bay reveal the sculptural form of the feet. This idea continues in the integrated handle profile. The result is a piece of furniture that does not imitate movement, but translates it into material, line, and shadow.
The boathouse in Leoni proved to be the perfect setting. Its location directly on Lake Starnberg makes the inspiration behind ONDE tangible: at times calm and mirror-like, at others shaped by wind and motion.
At the same time, the place carries its own history. Leoni was originally known as Assenbuch and owes its present name to the Munich court opera singer Giuseppe Leoni. The fact that a place with Italian roots became the backdrop for a piece of furniture with an Italian name is a beautiful and almost incidental connection.
Architecturally, the boathouse was equally fitting. After a fire, it was rebuilt on the foundations of its historic predecessor. Its distinctive timber construction and close relationship with the water give the building a timeless sense of ease.
The photoshoot therefore never felt like placing a piece of furniture in front of a backdrop. Instead, it revealed a natural connection. Water, wood, and architecture provide the setting for a design inspired by waves and bays. The boathouse helped make the idea behind ONDE visible.
At Leoni, ONDE appears not as an object placed within a scene, but as part of a larger narrative. The sideboard enters into a dialogue with a place that, much like ONDE itself, balances calm and expression, craftsmanship and atmosphere, nature and architecture. Here, ONDE finds its beginning – in a place that brings its inspiration to life.
