Singer Laren

NL – Laren, 2022 | Public Building

Icon of modesty

The Singer Laren site consists of a museum, a villa, a sculpture garden and a theatre. At the beginning of the last century, the American couple Anna and William Singer had the villa De Wilde Zwanen built in Laren. Friends of the family, including numerous artists, were received here. An impressive art collection was created. In 1956, a museum and a theatre were built next to the villa.
The Singer collection includes works from the period 1880 to 1950 by artists such as Anton Mauve, Jan Sluijters, Kees van Dongen, Leo Gestel and Bart van der Leck. In addition to paintings and works on paper, the collection also contains a number of fine sculptures, including seven by Auguste Rodin. Singer can thus boast the largest collection of this sculptor in the Netherlands, with the Thinker as the highlight.
